The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is a a regional theater company and major arts-education provider that has been providing Free Shakespeare in the Park, Bay Area Shakespeare Camps and Shakespeare On Tour in Pleasanton since 2000. The mission statement of the Festival is to make the words and themes of Shakespeare accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, financial status, or level of education.
Description of services provided:
Free Shakespeare in the Park provides a professional production of Shakespeare play in Amador Valley Community Park, each summer. All are invited to bring family, friends, a blanket and a picnic to enjoy professional theater in beautiful park setting at no charge. Bay Area Shakespeare Camp provides a supportive environment where kids get into the act! Two-week camps meet weekdays from 9am-3pm, with optional aftercare available unti8l 5:30 pm. Camps are led by trained theater professionals and provide instruction and experience in all aspects of drama and theater. Experience is welcome but not required. On the final day of the session all participants perform in a Shakespeare play staged for an audience of family and friends. Camp fee are kept low and need-based scholarship assistance is offered. Shakespeare On Tour brings the magic of live theater and the beauty of Shakespeare's languages to schools, libraries and community centers. In Pleasanton, shows have taken place at tahe Pleasanton Library, Foothill High, Harvest Park Elementary and Pleasanton Middle.
